Stefan SteinStefan Stein was appointed chief ethics and compliance officer of Qwest in May 2009. He is responsible for ethics and corporate compliance, regulatory compliance, privacy and court orders, security, disaster preparedness, environmental affairs, safety and industrial hygiene, and risk finance, insurance and claims. Previously, Mr. Stein was deputy general counsel and senior vice president of Qwest. In that position, he oversaw Qwest’s special litigation group, which directed Qwest’s responses to government investigations as well as securities and related litigation. Prior to joining Qwest in 2001, Mr. Stein was a partner at the Denver law firm of Sherman & Howard, where he chaired the firm’s litigation department. Previously, Mr. Stein served as an assistant U.S. attorney with the United States Attorney’s Office in Los Angeles, where he was the deputy chief of the public corruption and government fraud section. In 1994, the Attorney General of the United States presented Mr. Stein with the Director’s Award for Superior Performance. Prior to his service at the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Mr. Stein was a partner at the Los Angeles law firm of Wyman, Bautzer, Kuchel & Silbert. Mr. Stein graduated with honors from Stanford University in 1978 with a bachelor’s degree in economics and received his juris doctorate degree from the University of Michigan in 1981. Mr. Stein is the chair of the board of directors of Urban Peak, a non-profit organization that provides shelter and other services to homeless or at-risk youth. Mr. Stein, his wife, Andrea, and their two children reside in Denver. |
